Stop by the store to do a little shopping for some groceries and I was glad that they were serving plate lunches and I got one and it was good. I found what I was looking for and that was in the meat department. Picked up a few packages and was satisfied with the prices. Good and fresh. The lunch was very good and enjoyable. Breaux's has been a neighborhood staple for over 60 years here in same location; And although their prices are above-average for this particular area of Lafayette--their noon plate lunches and assorted fresh meats and cheeses have kept them in business as a staple of everyone's cabinets and refrigerators regardless of their high prices for the area. I’ve been going to this store since I was a child. The employees were always super friendly and the owner was usually there to greet, help and thank everyone. Recently, things have changed. The employees in the deli are RUDE and combative with the customers and each other. The owner that was the heart and soul of the place is no longer there and the other two are awful. When I told them about repeated bad experiences with deli workers one snapped and me and said “Do YOU know anyone else we can hire?”. I was shocked. Mr. Wallace Breaux must be rolling over in his grave. I have been a loyal customer for 30 years but am done shopping here. If the owner would have apologized for my experience and then explained the problem with finding good workers, I would have understood. Instead he was just as rude as the employees I was complaining about. This was once a Northside gem but not anymore. Unless you want to be subjected to rude, insulting employees and owners stay away from this place. It’s no longer the Breaux’s Mart we knew and loved. Very sad.
